Hey yall… looking for some help and delete if not done correctly..

1989 240sx coupe with the KA24E

So I recently installed a fueltech ECU from scratch. Removed engine harness and made my own. Now none of my marker lights/brake lights/dash lights will shut off. My headlights turn on and off with the stalk. The pop up headlights pop up and down sometimes almost when they feel like it. A minute ago they worked going up and down. Now they are stuck up.

I have tried jumping the relays and switching them around. The 3 on the driver side. Jumping makes headlights go down and so on. I have this plug, that is on the same “harness” as the pop up switch and cruise. Cannot find a place to plug it in.

I pulled the 75 amp alternator fuse on the main fuse box and it killed the lights. Plug it in.. back on.. I have all engine stuff on a separate fuse box and harnesses for Fueltech.

I have nowhere else to figure out what the heck to do. I’ve done all the YouTube videos. I’ve searched the NICOclub forums. Just trying to get an idea before I just throw parts at it.

Car does run on the new fueltech set up so at least that isn’t too messed up. The OEM engine harness is fully removed and not using any of the plugs. I also removed all inner dash accessories (AC/HEAT/RADIO/ETC) any help would be so much appreciated!

The front markers run through the engine harness, as does the headlamp switch. I'd say it's likely something is wired wrong, probably in the SMJ connector. Check your wires against the diagram, EL-46 (PDF page 853):

I left the chassis harness 100% OEM and removed the Engine harness since I went with an unterminated fueltech one. Injectors/coils/etc. Since you say the markers and such run through the engine harness… how would they be getting power without a harness attached? Or is the control aspect of it on the engine harness? The wiring diagram confuses me somewhat just due to all the connectors I have deleted and such.

Even with the FiTech running the engine, the harnessing still needs to interface with the cabin for starting, cabin power, front lighting, horn, etc. The lights can't be getting power from thin air, so I'd say it seems obvious there's a screwup someplace in the rewiring.

Alright so after awhile of wiring and searching I’ve come up with nothing obvious. I have never removed the EFFI (ecu harness) before and since running with the FT, it is gone. The connectors that the EFFI harness connects to on the chassis harness showed nothing that I really needed/use. Are there ground/switches that the OEM engine harness plugs into that I may have overlooked when wiring engine? I wired the engine as barebones as possible. FT does not get speedo or any of that dash stuff so I’m wondering if I’m missing a ground or something there. The SMJ has power to both headlight wires. I pulled it and the inner fuse panel. Almost as if there’s no ground for them or something unusual. According to the FSM, I have all grounds accounted for so that’s why I’m wondering if I need to wire up the EFFI harness connectors to the passenger side 2 connectors by the headlight. The FSM doesn’t show that any of those pins are necessary and I did ground them all out and the lights never went out so I am stuck. I traced wires and found nothing abnormal.
