I have a 1989 S13 Coupe.

E-brakes:Just today I was going to pick up my sister from school and I noticed when I got out of the driveway that the rear was shaking bad when I went in reverse. I got home and now the ebrake instead of going lets say the regular 12 clicks and go stiff, it goes 5 clicks and goes stiff.

Electrical:Its been a while since I've had the following problem, but I need to fix it ASAP. Whenever I step on the brakes all of the lights come on as if I had the parking lights on. by Everyting coming on I mean Parking lights, side markers, corner markers, instrument cluster, a/c control, and even the glove box if its open. Another thing is that whenever I have the parking lights or even the headlights on, my brakes are light up as if I was stepping on the brakes all the time, when I do step on them you can barely notice the change in illumination. Reverse light doesn't come on when I go into reverse. I did the Reverse EL indiglo gauges upgrade to the instrument cluster, tomorrow I'm going to revert that and see if that will fix that problem.

Smell:Ever since I bought the car (and it seems like its only in the winter for some reason) I get a burning smell coming from the center console, as if a wire was burning or something.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Not sure about the electrical and e-brake issues, but I had a similar problem with a wierd smell from the console. Mine was a pinhole leak in a transmission line, and it was leaking right onto the exhaust

Thanks for replying, I'll check the transmission sometime soon for that leak you are talking about, can you tell me any specific location? Thanks.

check where your shifter bolts in to the transmission. if fluid leaks out onto the transmission its burns and smells really bad......

same thing happend to my car with the e brake..its because i lowered my car..and on the left side where the splash guard is..there is a accesory harness..and i lowered the car so much that the tire scrapped the guard and onto the harness when i made tight right turns..anyways..check out that harness is messed up.that harness also affected my windshield wipers..

UPDATE:

Shortage:Okay fellas, I figured out the short. Whenever you have a short, besides panicking, please check and make sure you have the right bulbs in the right places. I was using (I guess too little of a bulb) on my left tail light on the brakes, so thats why my whole interior lit up when I pressed the brakes, that light bulb was the wrong size and was creating a short in the whole lighting system.

E-Brake: as MateoO and slydways said, I think I'm pinching the E-brake line with my rear seats, I did remove them and install them again, and around that time its when it started. So I'm sure that its the seats that are pinching the line.

Smell: Still need to check it.
