1989 Nissan Maxima Lt CV shaft (left drive shaft) replacement

Someone must have successfully removed this shaft from its attachment to the transmission. I see a round housing containing a U joint firmly attached to the transmission and I have not been able to pry it loose.

You have to pull the right side before you can pull the left.
