I just purchase a white 5 spd 240SX for 800. A new beater for me!!! It's been a very fun driving this car today.I love this car Always a huge fan of nissan! I'll upload some pictures once the weather getting better!

The car has 176k miles, and rusted underbody, the odometer don't work, RPM gauge works great. The clutch is excellent, brake has been wonderful. no oil leak, but leaking exhaust (around muffler (downpipe)The engine starts great in cold weather (no dig dig dig sound no nothing).

Under the hood, the engine is shaking pretty bad, no funny smells, everything else looks great. The engine and shift knob only shakes during idle (it's an old car) Do you think getting a new engine mount solve the problem?

I was wondering what needs to beaware of at such a high mileages. (176K)How long do u think it can still runs? I heard there's problem with timing belts on the 89 models, what's the sign of that?

This is an amazing ride after off, I still drives a 04 Evo. But this car has impress me. It's nothing fast, but handling is great and i'm just impress how the car runs at such a high mileage!

Thx for reading all this! And please comments on what to look for and maintanence. I'm planning on checking and changing stuff on this car over the weekend.

alot of members have had KAs run into the 200k mi area...The timing chain makes like a rattling noise from the front of the engine...Some say it sounds similar to rattling a can of spray paint, I though it sounded lower pitch then that...it will usualy go away somewere about 2-2.5k...

How much does it shake? probably just bad motor mounts if its nothing to wild...

They are fun cars to drive

If you maintain it properly and do a lil overhaul (i.e. timing chain, pumps, mounts, etc), it will last you for a looonnnngggg time.

For mounts, either nismo, jgs, etc will work great. Nismo has the least "cabin vibration" though for comfort... you can search for "engine mounts" and see what is involved.

Smaller things you can do for maintenance are the same w/ every car you just buy:

seafoam treatmentoil change, oil filterspark plugs, wires, distributor cap, fuel filter, air filter, o2 sensorcoolant flush, transmission flush, diff fluid change

and if you are feeling adventurous

timing chain/headgasket/water & oil pumps/etc.

Just being a little of topic, I also just got a 240sx (90). I took it to the shop for an overhaul (oil, breaks, tires, trans) a few weeks ago.

So my question is what is a Seafoam Treatment?

Start here:

Type 'seafoam' and press <Enter>. Look at the first result. Voilà!

what he said - that is the first thing I did to my 240 and what a difference - also bushings and whatnot if you feel like improving here.

The one thing i regret is waiting so long before doing engine mounts.

Engine mounts will take care of the engine moving around in the bay and make the car feel 10* time better -- its a must --- but remmember that the shifter in this car is directly going in the transmission - it is not a cable shifter like you problably have in your evo or any transverse engine.... so it will vibrate a little

check your sparks, when i got my '92 i had the same problem with the shifter and engine shaking and i pulled the spark plugs and the #3 wasnt firing. replacement for that took care of the problem... no more shaking
