I just got done with an altenator issue (The pivot bolt was missing). Thought I had everything just about the way it needed to be and then the car doesn't start. At first I would turn the key and the car would do nothing, kind of like I didn't have the clutch depressed. I flushed and bled the clutch system and it's working like a champ. Tried starting the car again. Now I get a click on the ACC. / DIFF. Oil relay which is in the relay box under the intake filter. I've done a decent amount of research and can only guess that the relay is doing it's part but the solenoid is dead... Is that a good guess? I would have tested the starter with a voltmeter but didn't have any one else to help this weekend. I'm hoping I'll be able to get someone today to help turn the key while I check the voltmeter. Or is there a test I can do just by pulling the starter and testing it outside of the car? I'm really not 100% it's the solenoid or the starter, but the problem happened after a 20 min drive, so I didn't think it would be a wiring issue. (that and I checked alll of the wiring harness I could see and it all looks good)

Thanks for the help!

you need to do the voltage check. If voltage isnt getting to the solonoid then it is either the clutch interlock relay or the clutch switch itself on the pedal. the little plastic button that depresses the switch may have fallen out as well.

The only switch I can find is on the diagram attached. The clutch stop switch, just wanted to make sure that this was one of the things under question. I was under the impression that the car was checking to make sure the clutch was disengaged before starting. If everything were functional and this was the only switch, you could just depress the clutch ever so slightly and it would start.... right? Or is there another switch I'm missing?

Is the Clutch Interlock Relay called something else? I'm not finding any relays labeled that.... As far as I was aware there's only two locations for relays. Just behind the battery and under the intake filter.

Still haven't checked voltage on the battery, but will tonight. I found out last night that I can't do it solo....

The clutch switch is located on the clutch braket opposite to the switch in your diagram it is pushed when the pedal reaches full travel.

The clutch interlock relay is located in the relay center below your intake box. it is probably labled "clutch"

Found the problem. It was the rubber/plastic pad that triggers the switch that fell apart. I don't know how I didn't see that switch earlier, but I kept looking on the firewall and didn't see it.

On another note, I don't know if it's different on the 89 240s or not, but I see no relays that says anything like "clutch", "starter", etc... There's just a lot of abbreviations that I can't really figure out. Is there a page in the FSM or in a chiltons manual that describes all of the relays? Just for future reference...

Also, does anyone have a part # handy on that boot/stopper thingy? I read somewhere that someone got one and that it wasn't expensive... I can ask Nissan for a part number, but thought it'd be easier if someone had it handy.

Thanks a bunch for the help!
