hey, wats up all? i am hoping that i can get a quick response to this question because i am very intrested in buying a '89 240sx. i checked it out last week and every thing seemed fine. while i was driving it i passed by my brother who was spectating and he noticed a sound coming from the rear end. the car has 113000 miles on it and the buyer wants 2300 obo. the body is straight, its a 5 speed and completely stock. i am thinking that the noise is a bad bearing but i could be wrong. could it be the rear end? if so how much would that cost to replace and if it is the bearings how much would that run me. im have a decent understanding about mechanics but i think i would have to take it to a shop to have that repaired. if so should i buy performance parts to replace the old ones? i want to buy this car so i am hoping that someone can guide me in the right direction. any input would be awesome. thankss all...

the bearings in the diff aren't all that hard to replace, just you'd need to send it to a machinist to get the bearings pressed off and to get the diff properly seated. Performance bearings, nah, get some good oil for it though.

thanx.. do you think that the car is worth purchasing if the rear end is bad?
