1989 240sx Questions From Newbie from NJ

I just picked up the above toy and she is at my mechanic for basic checkup and tune. She is totally stock and would like to make her a little more peppy. Can anyone recomend a shop in Northern NJ that installs mods for 240sx?2nd question would be is what is the best bang for my buck for upgrade?Headers/Intake & Cat back?Any suggestions would really help....thanks!PS > this will not be raced with and not a daily driver either....Lastly, what's widest I can go on the wheels without changing stock supension....

best bang for a ka single cam is weight reduction(a/c removal, lighter seat, strip interior ects., ka is not going to make any serious horse with bolts on unless you turbo it. GL

Wait, not a race car with stock suspension???? Or not a daily driver on stock suspension. Doesnt make very much sense.

um, there are alot of shops up that way, how far north are you?

Try to be a bit more specific, there are shops right in PA too that you may wanna check out. Like Import Intelligence. I would start with a google search, and then ask questions that you may have after a google search. Seems that you are brand new and need some direction.

I think he meant it's not a race car, and it's not a daily driver... meaning it's a secondary fun car.

no offence, but When i think of an 89 nissan, i think "project". I dont think of a car that gets checked by a mechanic and then sent to a shop for basic bolt ons.... thats for newer cars...

Best bang for buck mod really depends on budget and what your looking for i guess.

Wheels and tires are a great bang for buck. I recommend 8in wide, but others will say different.

Drivetrain: LSD, Driveshaft, clutch, flywheel, and even electric fans will make a pretty big difference, but is really stretching the term "budget"

Cool, I'm from morris county too.

I woud start out with headers back exhaust and a cold air intake for a little better sound and performace.

If you want to put wide wheels on your car you're going to have to lower it with either a cup kit or coilovers for it to look right

if your near Clifton check out revolution motorsports. my buddies steve and louis do great work. and work on anything from 700hp sc300's to skylines to grocery getters. they did my swap if you want to see the quality of work they do.

Pride Performance in Keansburg(Keansberg?) does AMAZING work, they really made my 240 a monster, I stand by them 100%. To date, they've put coilovers in my 240, welded my diff, swapped out my subframe, completed a full 5speed swap and catered to every little request i've given them, they even surprised me a couple of times with stuff i didn't even think of.

Everyone who works there has a racing background and a beast of a car behind them(especially the GTR), not to mention their drift team! They do EVERYTHING even right hand drive swaps! You really cant trust no-name shops, and i mean the best part is.....they're very affordable! I make close to $450 a month, and my car's progress has flown by.

Are u gonna go the Boost route?N/A Route?

How much will both cost?

After u have that figured out then go to a shop and invest money.

The crappiest thing is putting time and money into an N/A set up then having to part it out because u want more power and decided to boost it.

Great advice...that's why I was asking what baby steps I should take...thanks! The most I will ask from this car is probably around 260HP. Not sure what going from 140HP to 260HP would equate to $$$$

first mistake is thinkin you got 140 whp on a 18+year old car

but figuring out what you want to do; dont buy "pep" parts till you do your research....

Not too educated on the types of engines but if I swap with an SR it will be much quicker? Where is slidewayz? thanks!

the sr20det is what the car came w/ stock in japan... will make it quicker, though not superfast w/o mods but it sounds like just what u would want... i think a redtop sr20 is rated at 205hp from the factory.

search and ull find alot of answers... take ur time and learn from others r&d.

I have to agree that the OP should get a clear and concise goal in mind before anything else. It's easy to wind up with a bunch of parts you don't need or want.
