I've searched through the FSM and cannot figure out the coolant lines in question. This is a KA24E SOHC.

Under the front part of the intake manifold there are three coolant line connections. One has a U shaped hose that goes from the intake manifold to one of the two other coolant connections. I believe the other two have to do with the heater exchange, but I'm not 100% sure. The problem is I can't remember which the U-shaped hose connects to and which connects to the upper Intake plenum. Can someone look at theirs or tell me offhand which is which? I was thinking the U-shaped hose connected to the connector that sits a little farther back than the other and little farther away from the block. I believe that one is the black rectangular box.

Sorry, I'm trying to be descriptive. I'm just not sure what the connections are for specifically.

why was this bumped only 6 hours later when it hasn't even gone to page 2 of this section? Next time, give it 24 hrs before bumping, please.

Got a picture of what you're trying to connect?

Pretty sure I figured it out, but I'd stilll like to be sure. I looked at it again last night and one of the connections is on the back of the thermostat housing. The other is a connection that is part of a black rectangle. I was told it's a heater core feed. I don't have any pictures, I'll try and take some tonight. The 3rd connection I was talking about (the one that's part of the intake mani) looks to feed directly off of the upper radiator hose connection.

After working with it some last night I think the hoses are different sizes (by a very small amount). I played with the connections some and believe I have it the way it should go but would love to hear from someone with a KA24E. I'd like to be sure on this before I move on...

Ok, here's the description.

Black Arrow - This is a reference, that's the Power Steering Pulley/assembly.

yellow arrow - This is the connection that comes from the bottom of the Upper Radiator hose connection to the Intake Manifold.

Red Arrow - Connection that goes to the mysterious (at least to me) black box connected to the block.

Green Arrow - This is the back of the thermostat housing. This kinda confuses me because the U shaped hose goes from the Yellow Arrow to here. Does that sound right to anyone? If my logic is right, then when the Thermostat opens it pulls coolant straight from the upper rad hose to the lower? Maybe someone can explain this to me. I'm sure that's where the U shaped hose goes, due to the size of the connections, they're slightly different than the one on the black box.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the over-anxious bump.

bingo bout the U shaped hose and the link up between yellow and green. I forget where the red goes to though.

Someone else who's seen a KA24E recently should be able to chime in. Unfortunately the last time I've seen an E was about 3 years ago. When the last of my local buddies switched over to a DE.

If you're sure on the U shaped hose then I know exactly where the red goes. It goes up through the middle of the Intake to the upper plenum, about dead center on the engine side of it.

Don't suppose you can explain why the U shaped hose is there? I find it a little confusing...

iirc it links up the intake manifold to the coolant system

is one end of the u-shape hose going to the throttle body area?

that is to keep the throttle valve from freezing shut during these cold, winter climates...

There are lines that go to the Throttle body (and I wasn't aware why that was done either until now =) but the U-shaped hose does not. I'm not sure I understand what you mean about linking the coolant system to the intake... The upper radiator hose connects directly to the intake mani.

The U shaped hose almost looks like some kind of bypass.

upper hose goes to the engine block & straight to the 2 sensors/ bleeder bolt/ lower intake mani???

as seen on this pic:

too dark to verify about that u loop, but i'm guessing it's for the manifold return line <shrugs>

Wait, had a thought... The water pump is going all the time right? well, the engine isn't always drawing coolant from the radiator (that was my understanding of the thermostat) so maybe that's the line that allows circulation back to the intake?

That's just a guess. At this point it's just academic

u can clearly see the coolant hoses/ metal lines going to the TB valve area (now just that white paper towel) & they run to the back firewall, then probably loops back towards the front...

we just had a major rainstorm here, so i'll wait till daybreak to go C
