Hi Nico members,

I currently have a 1989 240sx Hatchback (5 Years inactive in outdoor parking space). However, it was started up about a year ago and the engine turned over. Now, it won't start, probably a faulty fuel pump because the engine tries to turn over. The whole car is stock, planning on buying a fuel pump and changing it myself.Anyone have a nice tutorial ?Also any suggestions on what else needs changing? The brake rotors "LOOK" rusted, but it should come off once the car gets moving? (so i was told)The fluids i know i have to change.Anyone can recommend a good and honest mechanic in Queens/Brooklyn that work on Imports. I just need the regular maintenance things done and inspected. Please help! I'm a super-noob!

umm if its been sitting for 5 years, you are going to need a few things done to it to get it to start. I would reccomend changing ALL fluids, flushing them out, radiator/transmission/oil....replacing ALL hoses, most, if not all of them are probably dry rotted anyways, get that gas outta there, its deffinatly bad, may want to check the tank for rust, and replace if so. Obviously replace all regular maintence things like air filter/fuel filter, check the tires/lugs to make sure they are good...then worry about starting it. The rotors should clean off once it gets moving, but i'd still wire brush them off or something. You could search a bit on the fuel pump, i'm sure there are tons of writeups on here for it, if not go buy a haynes manual...its in there as well.

Only thing I can add is to replace the battery with a new one. It might crank the car over but it won't last long after sitting that long.

First, thanks for the feedbacks from every1.

The Fuel pump i found everyone using was WALBRO, but it says high flow, and I don't think that would be necessary for stock parts.I found a http://www.fuelpumpstore.com/f....html

Walbro 190 LPH flow for the fuel pump. What is the stock fuel pump's specs? Would it do any harm if i use the higher flow one?It seems about the same price. THe 255 flow one u can get from nicoclub via discount.Another member also says it gets loud.I plan on doing the fuel pump this weekend if i can. Found a tutorial, but the pics aren't there anymore!Really need pics as i said , i'm a super-noob! =TCan't wait.

Thanks all.

ok, its not as loud as everyone makes it out to be...i can barely hear mine priming before I start the car, and never hear it once its running. You can get a walbro and it wont hurt anything. Why not just go to autozone and get a fuel pump for a 240? then just unplug yours and plug the new one in...while you are there, buy a haynes manual, it will have everything you could ever want to do mantience wise in it. w/ pictures if you get stuck while installing it, come back and ask

back when i bought my 89 from the owner who hasnt started it for 6 years, all i had to replace was my battery, fuel pump, fluids, and two injectors. injectors part was a pain because it sat for so long that injectors #1 and #4 clogged.

The brake rotor seems rusted.Do i need to 1) buy new ones (costly)2) try scrubbing it off after heating it up by driving a bit around.

Please help!!! Thanks

The fuel system should be your biggest concern. If it sets long enough, gas will turn to varnish, aside from clogging lines, crapping out fuel pumps and injectors, the varnish can seize valves. Keep a new fuel tank in mind.If you go with a high flow pump, I would suggest an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. It does not have to be fancy or expensive, but it has to work. I have been rocking a Vision fpr that I got off eBay for $40 a year ago to go with my Walbro. This after my original injectors crapped out.As far as brakes, the rotors should be alright, remove them and have them cut ($5-$8 a piece at any parts store) but definitely get new pads as they will degrade and fall apart on their own over time.Everything else should be a thorough tune up. New belts, hoses, filters especially fuel, and flush out the engine once you do get her started. Think clean and shiny. Dirt, rust and sludge at this point are not your friends.I sincerely hope everything works out easily and well for you, but be prepared for the worst. Good luck.

Hey,I'm back!!! Fixed the fuel pump. Got one from autozone because i did not want to replace the fuel pressure regulator. (the high flow ones, ppl said needed to change the FPR) due to higher flow = higher pressure.Fixed it up this weekend. After 8-10 times trying to crank and start the engine, it was like a movie....The engine started!!!! and the dust blew out all at once.It was awesome! But now one of the pistons is making a clicking noise. Probably needs to be shaved? Or maybe slightly clogged?? Anyone have any ideas? The clicking is in the piston closest to the windshield.Do i need to do anything else b4 i try driving it forward and back a few times?Only the fuel pump has been changed and starts pretty okay.

the clicking noise is most likely your lifters freeing up after all that time sitting w/ sludge buld up.

Its a cyclic clicking sound. What is a fix if it is the lifters? Pouring some oil to smooth it out??What oil do you recommend?

Hi nico members,

After a long memorial day weekend, the noise from the engine stopped!!! The clicking stopped. The rotors are rusted and needs to be changed, the front shocks also seems shot. Needs new tires all around and liquids changed.

Next step I'm thinkin about is to take the oil pan out. Then change the transmission fluid as well right? becuz in order to drain transmission fluid, oil pan needed to be taken out. What other fluids should be changed???What oil weight/brand should i use ?transmission fluid brand/oil?Any suggestions on the shocks and tires as well?

I am also in need of a mechanic in the queens area . If anyone has any honest and good mechanic to recommend, please do, it would be greatly appreciated.I was browsing the web, and "Wings Performance" came up. A shop that only works on Nissan 240sx !! in the NY area. Does anyone have any experience w/ them?? Thanks all!
