Short and to the point: are these 100% necessary?

I bought some replacement pads (and rotors) for the REAR at Advance and the new pads really don't fit into the retaining clips like the stock pads did. If they are needed, i could grind down the top of the metal backing on the new pads to make it flat (more like stock) but everything seems to function fine without them.

If it makes any difference, i don't use shims either, i use the tacky orange stuff to cut down on noise.

In either event, i won't be buying crap pads like this anymore.

Thanks for the advice,K

the stuff for sliding calipers is mainly to make it not make noise... The bottom line is, once you get the pad in there its not gonna fall out, but it may move around when your braking, possibly making a crunching sound as the car comes to a stop.. More annoying than anything.....

Thanks for the input. Given that info, i'll just leave 'em there without the springs and if i start to hear any annoying chatter, then i'll just redo it using better pads.

Thanks again,K
