I recently took my '89 240 into the dealer to fix the non functioning automatic seat belt which they will fix for free when they get the parts as it has a lifetime warrenty. After giving my 20 year old car an inspection, one of the many things they said I needed was a new battery terminal at a cost of almost $400! I'm assuming they're talking about the cable that goes onto the battery, but I can't find any reference to a part that would cost that much to replace, even at the dealer. Anybody know whats up with this?

$400 to replace a battery terminal! I'm in the wrong line of work! My battery terminals are looking quite aged as well so I would like to know suggestions on this as well. I can buy a entire cable replacement for the positive at the parts store but the negative looks as though it will need to be pryed off the lower harness and replaced.

tell whoever told you that to go shove a whole pineapple up their @$$, a replacement cable costs maybe $10 from the auto parts store, new battery $100 ish for a good one. thats rediculous. sounds like a headlight fluid scam to get some money out of you while they are doing free work to me...

They are probably talking about the positive battery cable assembly, not the battery terminal. The positive battery cable has a bunch of connectors and isn't super easy to replace. You can get one of those lead replacement terminals or the ones that have a cable with it as well from your local auto parts store but it isn't going to look like the one the car came with.If you don't care about that, then they are far cheaper and work pretty good too.I'm a stickler for detail so i only use genuine parts on my car, unless it's performance parts, but damn it's expensive sometimes!
