1989 240 sx transmission?

I am currently looking to buy a 1989 240 sx with 103,000 from a friend of mine but there seems to be one problem. The transmission seems to take a long time to shift between 2nd and 3rd gear. He tells me it has been doing it since he has had it (approx 30,000 miles). Does that sound like it could be true and is it a major problem or possibly develope into one? Thank you for the help.

I think the reason is one of two things. One could be that you are losing pressure in the direct pressure area in said gears. Or you could be losing pressure when the fluid gets warm or hot. Either way, looks like it's going to be a trip to the transmission shop.
