Have problem troubleshooting the headlight high beam on 1989 240 SX. Passenger side high beam does not light. Replaced bulb with no change. Swapped good headlight from driver side, still no change. Wiring appears to be good. Must fix to pass inspection. Any suggestions?

If a good one doesn't work in the driver's side, you can bet that somewhere along the line, the wiring is bad. Check to make sure it's connected to wherever it goes.

Do you know if there are any headlight relays in the circuit?

I've read that there are 2 headlight relays on the circuit that opens and closes the headlight assemblies (1 for each side) but don't know if the high/low beam control passes thru those relays.

I would swap these relays as an experiment but don't know where they are located.

hey, I had same prob on drivers side high beam, it ended up being the headlight switch, i had the entire switch replaced and end of problem...........seems that there is a small plastic part in the switch that breaks over time and kills one or both high beams...my switch actually made a rattling noise from the broken part

Sammy,Thanks for the hint. I removed the headlight switch and confirmed that it was the problem.

Priced a new switch from Nissan. $94.00

My switch didn't have any obviously broken parts, no pieces rattling around so I removed the plastic cover and sprayed the whole assembly with contact cleaner to see if I could blow or clean out anything that would cause the problem.

This seems to have worked. I now have both high-beams and the car has passed inspection and is back on the road.
