Hello everyone,

Here's what I have:
1988 Nissan 300zx N/A base 2-seater

305ci SBC from a 1979 impala (why not use a 350 or an LS? I already have the 305, and am not buying a 350 right now. I paid $500 for a running Impala with a 305 and a rebuilt transmission and THAT'S what I'm dropping in the car. HELPFUL comments would be appreciated)

Rebuilt auto 350 Turbo transmission (stole the drive shaft from the Impala too and once the engine and transmission are in the car I will take the Impala and 300zx shafts to a guy that does Fab work in my area to make me a custom one. Need them in the car first so I can take measurements.)

What I plan to do:
Take out the vg30e that's been causing me so much trouble and drop in the carbureted 305. I know it's not as good as a 350, an LS, or any 302, but it runs good, I'm cleaning it up, it has less than 100k mi on it, and it was CHEAP! The Nissan engine is being sold cheap or scrapped.

What I'm wondering is, has anyone else on here done a small block conversion before with this, and if so, how did you mount the engine? Is there a kit you can buy, or does it require fabrication. If so, does anyone have any templates they made/found that work really well for this application?

2 things:
1. You posted in the wrong section, I'm moving the thread to the Z31 section.
2. If I understand correctly, you are swapping a 305 making approximately 150hp and removing a VG30E making 153hp? Can I ask why?

The z31 chassis isn't the most popular recipient of such swaps, VG30ET, VH, RB, SR, are all more popular in this chassis. To my knowledge there are no bolt in kits for the SBC, to my suprise there is a kit for the LS https://www.dirtydingo.com/shop/product ... ts_id=1471 I know you can use setback plates to put an LS where an SBC used to live maybe you can modify them to set forward? Pretty sure the sbc mount locations would be in the way fo the power steering. Or just figure out where you want the engine to sit and fab mounts. Im my mind if you aren't prepared to make your own mounts this swap isn't for you.Best of luck.

Nobody said we had to be smart about it...............hope the states' inspection program has room in the rules to allow it on the highway, many don't.
