I have a dilemna going on with my car. I recently bought a 1988 Maxima because I know of its reliability as a past owner. Some unusual things are going on lately. For instance, the oil pressure will drop from 50 to 10 psi and at the same time the voltage gauge will ramp up from 14 to max (18 volts). These always happen at about the same time. The gas gauge will vary by a 1/4 tank at times. Keep in mind that I have the all digital dash board.Another thing is the car's odometer has registered only 9 miles in the past week and is now stuck.Could this be a computer problem? The car runs excellent and just purrs like a kitten at idle. I really want to fix up the car to some day give to my daughter. I only paid $600 for it and want to make it well worth the investment. I have a feeling the old owner didn't want to deal with it anymore. She wasn't very mechanically inclined anyway. Thanks y'all!!

The constant voltage regulator is ost likely the cause. If you're mechanically inclined you can pull the cluster and resolder the CVR.This usually fixes the gauge fluctations.
