Hello. I’m new to the forum, thanks in advance. I have an opportunity to get a 1988 d21 with low miles (just under 40,000), 4 cylinder, manual locking 4x4. I’m not that experienced with fixing cars/trucks, but I’m interested in learning. I’ve been thinking about getting an older truck, one that may be easier for someone new to work in and learn as they go. This particular truck may not have any issues right now (only ones mentioned is a sticking parking break, and minor rust repair to the bed). Current owner hasn’t driven it lately and it’s not registered, but he thinks it’ll pass inspection.
Any advice or thoughts about this? Is this a good truck to learn by? What kind of price should I try to get it for considering the (possibly low) risk that it’ll have problems when I get it?
If more information is helpful- I want a truck to move stuff around the property, occasionally get lumber, go to the dump, and possibly plow with.
Thank you for all thoughts.
