I have a 1987 Nissan Sentra w/ carburettor. One day after I parked my car it would not start. I waited a few minutes, it then started, I drove a couple of blocks and then it completely quit and it would not start. My son is a mechanic and he can not figure out why it will not start. He has replaced the distributor, the transitor assembly and coil. He manually turns the distributor and it sparks, re-installs the distributor and it will not start.
He pulls out the distributor and turns it by hand, no spark. He had it running once but it stopped and would not start. It is an intermittent fault but where. :frown:

I'll offer a shot in the dark here, because it sounds like your son has hit most of the relevant areas.

I think it could be an intermittent failure of the ignition switch. Your son can check to make sure there's voltage getting to the incoming side of the coil each and every time the ignition is on. If not, the problem is likely on the supply side of the circuit, possibly the ignition switch.

Again, it's a shot in the dark, but I think it's one worth taking. That's where I'd look next, anyway.

Best of luck, and please keep us informed!
