Does anyone know of a set of screw in studs for the head on the Z24 motor??? If so does anyone know if it helped on the head gasket bowing problem that seems to plague the Z24 motor?? It seems that every 10-15K miles I loose the head gasket on my 86 nissan truck. I haver had the head and block checked for straightness and they both have less than .003" warpage. If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated. I read in a previous post that you should retorque the head at every oil change to help the problem. If that is the case do you loosen the bolts and then retorque them or just recheck the torque from where they are at?

You loosen and re-torque one at a time every tune-up, it doesn't matter the order as long as they all get done.
But if your loosing the headgasket every ten to fifteen thousand miles, then you have a problem, as you are blowinh it before it is tune-up time.
You can try re-torquing them every oil change I suppose and see if that helps, but I have a feeling that the issue is something else if you have the flatness of both checked, maybe the thermostat is sticking, or the bypass is plugged if it has one, I don't know a lot about the ZZ24 engine, I mostly have L blocks.

ok thanks its a pain to get the valve cover off it but if that is what needs to be done so be it. I have a temp gage in the intake manifold between the stat and the block and it never gets much above 160 deg summer or winter and the stat says 195 deg. so I am at a bit of a loss

I heard they blow head gaskets about every 100,000 miles, that is why I say you have another issue.
What are you torquing them to?
