1986 maxima hard start sometimes

my 86 maxima will die just after starting sometimes or taking off from a stop sign will just quit. After a bit it will start and run. Just never no when its going to happen. It happened today it would just crank and crank . When i would just turn the key on didn't hear the fuel pump prime so i thought it was the pump. I checked the fuse was ok, checked fuel pump relay {green} in the truck area was ok. Checked the fuel pump it had continuity so ok. All that took about an hour and i turn the key on and i heard the pump prime and it started right up. every heard on anything like that? I'm wondering about the fuel pressure regulator. Any thoughts?
