I have a 1986 d21 hardbody that starts and runs then 5 mins later dies - starts back up and dies again. I have changed out the coil pack and its showing no codes. Any help?

Starts right back up as if nothing ever happened? Or does it take some cranking to get it going again?

I changed out the filter and pump was replaced a couple of years ago. The injectors are pumping gas. Now it starts up runs for about an hour then stops and won't start back up again for several hours. Replaced the coil pack and the computer. Also the air flow meter was replaced a couple years ago. This has been an on going problem that I think gets repaired then a few years down the road it does it again. I need to find the root of the problem. THanks for the help.

This is a longshot, but does the thermostatic heat riser work right?

It should close once the engine is warmed up, and if it doesn't, it can run like it's out of tune because of the hot a** air coming off the exhaust manifold. I don't know if it could stall it, but you could always check it.

It is something that is getting hot and shutting down the engine. Once it cools down it starts back up. Though sometimes it is several hours before it can start. What else besides the coil pack and the distributor could make the engine turn off without any hesitation?

I found this posted on a auto forum, don't know if it will help.

for all you folks that have a nissan that runs and dies check the ignition coil mounting bracket to see if you have a transistor control module mounted on it it could be a 2 or 1 plug module they work thru your computer and will cause ignition problems when bad, new cost from $115 at auto parts stores to over $200 at a dealer i replaced 3 already solved the problems of running and dying also nissan engines are prone to leaking intake gaskets from the factory causing your engine to suck air and not run right you can take a mechanics stehascope and probe around the intake ports and listen or spray starting fluid around them and listen for engine runs faster

A bad diaphragm on your fuel pressure regulator could do that. Hell, it could just be that the top cap hose isn't getting vacuum like it's supposed to...
