I've never been much of a poster, but I'm a little stumped on this truck. I was doing a tune-up on this D21, changed the plugs, wires, cap/ rotor, oil, etc. So I start it and it's rough. It takes it 5 seconds to struggle and then dies. If I give it gas it runs, but as soon as the rpm's drop, it boggles and stops. I thought I may have not tightened up the wires properly or misplaced one or two, but they are all where they're suppose to be on their respective plug; everything else was properly changed too. It's not a fuel or compression issue, more an ignition issue (the truck was running okay prior). I checked the spark from the wires with a tester and it's slow, inconsistent and orange not blue. The distributor wasn't messed with either. Could it be one of the two coils that's not working? Any help would be much appreciated.

Try to run with one coil disconnected, then the other.
It should run on either one.

So if you give it gas it doesn't die? Have you checked the wax - type fast idle solenoid?
