My D21 P/U has had what I beleive to be transmission problems for the better half of two months. I was just gonna run the symptoms by readers before I undertook in my mission. A general description of the state i bought it in rebuild Z24i motor w/110 k miles give or take 10k and a 99 replacment transmission brandnew probably 150k +/-10 k not much else known also was a cali model (might matter). This truck is used for Pizza delivery on rough turrain cause the nations broke and streets are s*** and my town is on a 8% hill grade at most points The problems began a month after I bought the truck. After shifting into 5th gear it became difficult to shift down into other gears(Acts like the gear isn't there or grinds or takes excessive force to engage into gear). Usually the problem resolved itself after I would concequently grind gears shifting from 3rd-2nd. Most recently the same situation tripped the problem yet after some very agonize grinds the problem hasn't fixed itself. My initial thought was to change the hydro clutch cylinder which works better now than the last but did not fix the problem. My father suggested that the syncro's may be going out in the transmission so I brushed up on my trany knowlege and concluded that his reasoning seemed pretty sound. I also changed the trans fluid a month ago with 75w90 and think i may have over filled the housing which could have pushed fluid past the front oil seal into the clutch housing causing it to slip. I was lead to believe this because other than my current problem im also having trouble keeping rpms as i climb city terrain or rpms are fine but there is little torque compared to normal. (Think the worst hills in san francisco droping from 3rd to 1st gear and up again because of lost tourists). In another instance Having passengers in my truck who weigh together maybe 300lbs causes it to lug down while upshifting even riding the clutch into the gear. At other times the rpms wont drop off when i engage the clutch to shift into another gear and the engine continues to race, in one instance the rpms jumped when the clutch was engaged shifting into neutral without me pushing on the accel peddle.(Update)- Parking on flat ground keeps the clutch from performiing bad. Every now and then the problem is resolved and it runs great tears up hills shifts like a race car but once i touch fifth its back to the same problem So as I stand im about to overhaul the transmission rebuild the clutch and lol....Carb my EFI with a weber cause im pretty sure the injecters are clogged and its just garbage anyway. If anyone can correct me on any of my beliefs or ideas or back me up that would be great cause honostly ive only taken a Basic college automotive class where and have rebuilt a ford 302 and i dont have alot of experiance; im just self teaching with a college book, Friends, and family,ThanksJosh Takko
