I'm not a mechanic by any means, but will be attempting to swap the engine in my 1986.5 hardbody with a VG30E that was in a 91 Maxima. I'm going to be getting some experienced help swapping the engine out, but was looking to make sure I wasnt going to find a snag along the way. Should this be a relatively clean replacement? My truck is a standard and the maxima potentially could have been an automatic. Would that cause problems? Did they design them to be interchangable?Sorry for my ignorance...I'm just trying to revive my old truck. Not scrap it.

Thanks!

Assuming the truck has a v6 in it then its just swapping a few items here and there between the engines, mainly coolant tube design differences, intake manifolds, and some engine accessories. Oh and possibly the oil filter setup, I believe its different on maxipads. If this was a z24i truck then you will have to do all that and get an engine harness/ecu from a v6 equiped pickup along with the transmission. You could also do a bellhousing swap from a n/a 300zx 5 speed from the 84-89 models. That should get you started in the right direction.

One last thing, check the end of the crank on the auto maxima engine and make sure theres no spacer plate or else you will have to tear the whole thing back out. peace.
