Bought a very used 300ZX as a project car for my son and I to work on. Test drove fine, cranked and ran fine. After purchase it did the same, cranked and ran fine for days. Backed it into the garage for some work. Replaced the brake pads, replaced the headlights but found that the headlight switch was not working properly. Took the steering wheel off and replaced the headlight switch so that the headlights work. Put everything back together and now the car cranks but will not start. We double checked all connections, replaced the distributor cap and wires just in case. I hear the fuel pump engage when we turn the key. I think that something is going on with the security switch. Bad thing is, we have no key to the doors to reset them. Fear that this is an electrical problem that I'm not going to be able to run down. Any help or ideas???? Are there any good mechanics who work on these old cars here in Birmingham Alabama?

Have you checked for spark at the coil? Checked the ecu for codes?

Spark at the coil. No. But the strange thing is, I checked with the meter for Ohms and it showed that the circuit is fine at the plug as well as the coil. I'm not an electrician by the way. Had to Google that. As for the EPU, I've read lots about it, just not sure if I need to be the one digging into that, don't want to mess anything up. I could give it a try later and post the findings if I figure it out. Thanks for the reply.

The ignition module, is known to fail after 30 years of service it might be the issue.
