Found a 1986 Nissan 300ZX with blown headgasket is this worth messing with or will it cost tons of money to fix? It has been sitting for 5yrs. Owner stated that when it ran hot he had it towed home; not sure what i am gwtting into but body is in immaculate condition. Any insight?

Offer him $200 and see if he bites. I wouldn't pay more than $500 for a car with a blown motor. You can pick up used engines for cheap if you have the time and abilities to swap them out.

yeah if the HG blew and filled one or more cylinders with coolant 5 years ago the engine might be a total waste, but if you have basic mechanical ability a swap is fairly easy and the VG's are available, but here in the rustbelt a clean chassis is worth paying for

Thanks for the reply sounds like it is cheaper to find another engine rather than rebuild. I will be offering him $200 tonight

What'd he say about that Z? I have an 86' 300ZX that I got hit rear about 8 years ago. it's been sitting in a corner under a cover every since. It has been started every few months. it has 68K miles. I was thinking I might part it, but sometimes it's hard to let go.

If you decide to part out that Z, I could use a taillight. Nothing major, but there's a small chip out of the driver side on mine. Who knows what else I might need....

Hmm okay, sure, might not happen though since the truck about turned the back 2" of the Z into a ramp. the entire front is all fine though. I think I have the driverside taillight, but I'm not sure it's condition. I haven't looked at it in a really long time. I got lots of maroon 86' Z31 parts.

You know...I just re-read what you posted about your Z getting hit in the rear end, and me asking about taillights. My response, before reading your post (the one I'm responding to), was DOH! I feel like such a turd. The wife was probably nagging about something stupid at the time, or I was just tired and not paying attention to what I read. I don't know, but your front end is still good, what condition are your turn signal lamps in? The connector you twist the bulb into is rusty, and I about tore the thing apart a few weeks ago trying to get a burnt out bulb out of it. Thank goodness for "Panther PI**" (Liquid Wrench).

**EDIT** Oh yeah...one more thing. How do your fenders look?

The front all looks great forward of the door jams. Email me at Pharaoh_01@yahoo, and I'll email you picts, or we can move this to the for sale thread. I'm in NM so there's no rust, though there's a little fading in the front skirt. It got hit at 68K miles and it's was darkening the back corner of my garage for 10 years, and since we moved it's been under a cover on the side of my house.
