Hello everyone. I am considering purchasing a 1986 200sx with a CA20. Has anyone ever had to change out a crank position sensor in one of these things, and if so, what was the car doing that let you know this part was bad. The guy thats selling it has tried 3 ECU's and cannot get it to run. He says that the injectors are always on, and they flood out the clylinders. If anyone has had a similar problem with thier CA powered 200sx please help me out.

Sweetness. Classic s-chassis seem to be getting more popular. Got any pictures?

You should find all the answers you need in the CA engine forum.

I dont have any pictures. I havent bought the car yet, im considering it. It isnt running, and Im trying to figure out what might be the issue before dropping the 400 bucks for it. The body is in awesome shape, but its an automatic. If it was stick i wouldnt have even hesitated.

The sensor is usually in the bottom of the distributor. I could be wrong as I'm not as familiar with the CA20 as I am the CA18. The way to tell would be to see if there is a connector that plugs into the base of the distributor. It will probably have anywhere from 3-5 wire in it.

I'm not familiar with how "pre-ECCS" software functions, but it would seem odd to me that a failed CAS would cause ALL of the injectors to stay open. How does he know that this is the problem? Is he sure it's not just a leaky injector?

why would a CAS cause the injectors to stay open? That doesn't make any sense. I would discard whatever he said and start from square one yourself.

Im holding off on this car because its an automatic. I know that a manual swap isnt that hard, but I wouldnt be able to do the swap for at least 14 months, and I dont want to drive an auto that long. I know its a bad excuse, but if I change my mind, im sure the car will still be there.

honestly...unless you totally love the styling...and want a CA18DET swap...I wouldn't bother.

but it's probably the ECU on it...my friend had a similar issue on his...he tried two ecus before finding a good one, if he got the ecus from junkyards...it really wouldn't surprise me if that's the problem.
