Hi all, just joined up today. My car is a 1985 Nissan Maxima (stick), with about 115,000miles on it, which I got from my dad who bought it new in Jan '85.

Anyways two weeks ago I noticed something odd while driving. It took more pushing of the pedal to get the car to speed up, and around gear 4 and 5 the engine/car would start to shudder, even if I was above 2000RPMs. In the case for gear 5, I would experience that problem around 65mph, but after fighting it for a while and getting up to 75, the rattling would end.

Another thing I noticed is that my mileage seemed to get worse since then. Before, I would average around 250miles on a full tank, and now I'm getting 160 which is pretty crazy.

Finally, can anyone point me in the direction where I can get a new driver side window console? Mine is really borked up and I tried google and ebay but couldn't find anything.

Any suggestions?Thanks!

welcome aboard bro.

well, you definitely have a sweet ride. as far as the vibration, that might be due to a motor mount or some chassis or wheel issue. if your gas mileage has gone down that drastically, i would say that its more along the lines that your dad was a less aggressive driver than you are. but if not, then you may need a tune up.

Hmm...well had the car had all its maintainence? No ce light? As for the window, you try the local junk yard?

I would start with the basic tune-up items... spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, maybe even the air filter and fuel filter if they haven't been changed in a while.

Has the timing belt been changed? They need to be changed every 60k miles so it definitely should have been done not long ago, if you're unsure or know that it hasn't been changed do that ASAP as the belt can break or skip teeth ruining the engine. It also stretches and cause can performance issues when it does.
