1985 maxima brake lights dont work

my question is i have a 1985 maxima the tail lights work fine the brake lights dont work check fuse i am at a lost any help would be great

Unless I'm mistaken...Tail and brake lights use separate bulbs.

the tail lights work but not the stoping lights i am thinking it is the stop light switch

Might check the pedal itself. Usually there are some rubber pads that press the switch and its probably possible that they can fall apart or fall out after time. I'd check that, if the pads are still there you could do a continuity check on the switch. Just put an ohm/multimeter on the leads then press the switch to see if there's contact.

everything looks good i dont have a ohm meter to test them could it be a relay also what is the tail light tied with like the tail light and interor light are put togather

I wouldn't think it would be a relay but it could be possible. I'd say it would probably be near the fuse box or near the back with the tail lights if there is one. I'd double check the fuses and bulbs again first as a relay is pretty uncommon to go out.

where is the fuse for the tail light i check all the fuses inside the car

Well... if none of the fuses in the car are bad then that's definitely not it, shouldn't be any in the rear or engine bay for the tail lights.

I'll try getting out to the garage tonight and see if they have the relay location listed in the manual. Another way you can test the switch itself would be to unplug the switch and take a small piece of wire to connect the two wires together on the car side of the wiring. That would make them light up if everything is good besides the switch.
