1985 engine question

I have a 1985 truck with the 4 cyl, 8 plug carb engine with a rod knocking. I would like to install a 4cyl, 4 plug later engine. can I use the carb and intake off my engine, instead of the fuel inj and intake???? no computer on 1985. this would make a much easer swap not having to deal with rewireing for the computer
