I can't seam to find the solenoid for the carb or even the same card at the wrecking yard. So I bought an 1984 carb to put in.
84 carb has 2 wires and the 85 has 6 wires. Was this really a stupid idea on my part or do I have a good plan here? Rick

by chance is your 85's solenoid still good?? those little buggers are quite specific, there is an exact replacement, found one on ebay for under 100... would have recommended swapping out for a real Weber though. it can be rewired but I cant find my diagrams right off (moving) maybe there is one here, great workshop manual with awesome wiring diagrams for our little trucks :)

This is something I have always wondered. The 6 wires are for fuel delivery and whatnot rather than the high altitude compensator system and all of that fancy stuff. The two wire one should make it run, but I would wonder how smoothly.

I really believe it is the air/fuel selonoid on my 85 carb that is bad. I tried taking one out at the wrecking yard and it broke trying to take it out. That sucked and I should have just bought the whole carb. The seloniod (air/fuel) sounds like a common problem so where are the available besides Ebay?

Not 100% sure. I snagged one from a mechanic shop back in the day but I'm not sure where they sourced it from.

Turns out that what I thought was an 1984 carb was really like about a 1979 carb. The truck ran smoother with it than the stock carb. Problem still was it still won't pass emission test. Just got my new selonoid today for 99.00 bucks. Wish I would have listened to Dreadsiren and looked on EBAY first. Found one there after I already placed my order. I could have saved $30.00 from Ebay. Clean and put it back together tomorrow.
