I have an 85 300ZX that use to start about a couple months ago, but now won't.
Trying to figure out why it stopped.

I have consulted a few friends and they suggested to spary starter fluid in the air intake valve, however the valve is not connect by a rubber hose like cars today, it's a hard tube that seems as it doesn't want to move.

How can I figure out if i have old gas or something else.

The car will turn over it will just not start

Well first off, you posted in the wrong tech section lol. Here: classic-z-technical.html is for your year Z31. I'm sure one of the mods here will move it for you. To help you out though, there should be a rubber hose coupling that connects the metal air inlet pipe to the throttle body. Locate that and disconnect it, then spray some starting fluid in there and crank the motor. If it fires up with starting fluid and immediately dies... You have a bad fuel pump. Other things to check would be: Spark, fuel filter, wiring, vacuum leaks...
