So I am thinking about buying a Nissan 300zx 1985 (non turbo) and I was wondering what are some options for mods. Not looking to break the bank to much but I have been looking for some parts and it seems pretty difficult to find aftermarket mods? Can any one give me some suggestions?

Just one, but a 90-95 300zx. You will be much happier.

As far as Z31 suggestions, might have better luck on that forum.

In no particular order:

- coilovers
- poly bushings
- adjustable tension rods
- rollcenter adjusters
- lsd
- boost controller
- bigger turbo
- gutted plenum
- big brake kit
- larger wheels
- short shifter
- interior gauges/pods
- racing seats
- engine management/nistune or emulator
- injectors/fuel delivery/pump

... in short, the same list as for any car more or less, now why don't we start by asking what you intend to do with the car, and what your budget really is?

My intentions with the car is to just make it a fun summer car to rip around in I would like to add some horse power and just make it a super fun and sporty car to drive

In that case, I would recommend some pretty inexpensive upgrades to improve the handling, and really tighten up the chassis...

1. replace ALL the bushings, front to back, chances are most are at the end of their life...
2. (response type) rollcenter adjusters
3. (stance) adjustable tension rods
4. (msa or addco) upgraded swaybars front and rear

Once you have that all sorted out you can figure out what areas need the most attention, for example springs too soft, not enough bite in hard cornering from the open diff, etc...

For cheap power mods there really aren't any, all the money you spend trying to make the non-turbo fast would give you twice the gains going turbo instead... if you don't want turbo, you're really limited to cams and exhaust

Power cost money, how fast do you want to spend? The N/A is rated for 160 hp, the turbo is rated for 190 hp, these are crankshaft numbers. You spend a few bucks putting intake exhaust on the N/A and you might gain 10 hp, spend thousands adding cams, headers, ecu tuning etc and you might make as much power as the turbo. Spend less money adding an intercooler and boost controller to a turbo and you easily add 100 hp or more! If you are happy with the modest power of the n/a by all means enjoy. If you want to make big numbers shop for a turbo car or do the swap.

For the record the Z32 starts out with the advantage of coming from the factory with intercoolers, the Z31 costs far less to own maintain and modify.
