Hello all! New guy here with a few questions, I have been a Honda guy for years and have built a couple of fun civics, as well as a little handful of motorcycles. I am looking at purchasing a 85 300zx, injected, n/a, and it has one issue in particular that worries me, it will start and idle fine for 5-6 minutes, flood out, then you can either pump the pedal or wait 2-3 minutes, and it will easily restart, but again, only runs 5-6 minutes before flooding again. If its a simple fix like swapping a fpr or cleaning the iacv, new plugs, wires, and fuel/air filters, I am going to snatch it up and enlist it for dd duty, as I have been wanting to get back into a fun rwd platform, but I don't want to bite the bullet if its going to be a never ending nightmare. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and tips/tricks!

Welcome to NICO.
When you say "flooding" I'm guessing you simply mean stalling? If the car was Flooding out it woudl be hard to restart which would point us in one direction while simply stalling points in another.

Either way first step is the check the ecu for codes http://www.xenonz31.com/ECUcodes.html
If no codes are present I'd first look at the iacv, could simply be dirty, or need adjusting.

As a whole these are dependable long lasting cars. Their largest problem is rust, they do require routine timing belt replacement to keep from destroying the motor, otherwise will run for hundreds of thousands of miles. Power steering leaks are made worse by well intending owners using the wrong fluid, and some parts simply wear out with age.
