My girlfriends '85 300zx non-turbo has many problems, which i am trying to fix as i can. Now, the heater will only work on defrost, no matter which button is pushed. Where can i find a vacuum diagram, and a component list and locations? Also, how about a trouble-shooting guide for the HVAC system, if avail.? i would appreciate any help i can get. oh, yes, the pass. elec. window will go down, but not back up. Where can i get a good, working motor that won't kill my wallet, or can the motor be rebuilt?

Welcome to NICO!

this is a typical problem on the Z31's fromt he passanger foot well look up under the dash near the center of the car, you'll see 3 or 4 dashpots all in a row, on one bracket and kinda hard to get to, pull the vacume hose off of each and hook a vac pump to them, pull a vacume and see if they hold, if they do not hold you need a new diaphram, if they hold but pop as you pull vacume then they were only stuck, if the move as they should then you are likely not getting vacume to the selenoids, look at the vac lines under the hood going through the firewall, they get brittle and crack

as for the window it's likely just the switch, even if it is the motor the salvage yard is your best bet

Good advise on the vac hoses, did someone have the dash opened up recently. I had this issue right after my heater core was replaced and it was because the vac hose was kinked.

For the window this is probably just a dirty switch. Take it out and try blowing some air into it and see if that doesn't fix the problem. if not a new switch will do the trick since it goes down but not up. I had this issue like 15 years ago! Not sure you can get a new switch anymore, you may be able to but parts are getting hard to find at the dealership, but a pick-a-part place wil work. Try cleaning that switch first.

Actually your problem is probably in the engine bay. There is a vac hose that goes out of the firewall by the heater valve. Chance are that hose or the other two hoses that run to the vacuum pod behind the front pass headlight. Good Luck!!!
