My Jideco 28545 89900 fuel pump relay (original relay- I think) had one of its resistors burn up. I bought a new after market relay but it will not send current to the fuel pump. The new relay is either defective or I have some problem with one of the six wires that attaches to the relay. The fuel pump is currently running off a wire (in line fuse attached) from the battery to a switch taped on the dash and into the relay harness and attached to the fuel pump supply wire. The gound wire in the harness must be alright because if I hook a test light to it from the battery positive post I get a light.I took voltage reading on the remaining 4 wires and got 11.86 volts from the oil pressure switch,12 volts from the accessory position in the ignition switch,14.75 volts from the alternator and .32 volts from #5 fuse in the fuse box. Mitchells wiring diagram show that the ecc main relay supplys # 5 fuse. Do you know what voltage I should be getting to the fuel pump relay through this number 5 fuse.
If the voltage is supposed to be 12 volts then why could I not bench test this new relay by hooking it up to a battery by putting the ground pin on the negative post and connecting the oil pressure, ign switch, #5 fuse, and alternator pins to the positive post and see if I get output on the fuel pump pin. I don't want to try that yet because I don't want to burn it up by doing something wrong. What I think is I may or may not have a problem with #5 fuse wire or may or may not have a good new relay. Any imput would greatly be appreciate.
Gratefully yours
