1984 Datsun Pick-Up questions

Hey I'm looking at an 84 datsun pick up tonight with 118,000 original miles.

Wondering if anyone has pointers for things to watch out for, mechanical issues, common problems, etc.

Also I would be buying here in San Diego and driving it home to Maine, does that raise any flags?

Just seeing what's out there for recommendations, never owned one of these before.

Hey Navi!

The 720's were relatively bulletproof... There's no real special issues that are unique to it - if it appears to have been well-maintained, runs smooth, tracks straight, doesn't smoke, and isn't dog-slow, it's a keeper.

Make sure you inspect the undercarriage closely for evidence of frame damage and rust (I'm sure being in Maine you know what that looks like!). Beyond that, good luck and make sure you shoot some pics for us along your road trip!

If I were driving anything coast to coast I'd make sure the entire vehicle was checked over by a competent mechanic. And if the service history were unknown I'd at least change any fluids that were suspect and repack the front wheel bearings. I'd also take a close look at the driveshaft / u-joints.
