My dad owns this 1984 Datsun dually with the 224 and a five speed, the thing is a gem, AMAZING condition, always drove great, and you could load it down with out much strain. unfortunately the headgasket went bad and the truck overheated. now it smokes all the time and sputters when running. we want to do a swap, and get something with a bit more power. The truck its self is strong but it doesnt always have enough power to pull whats behind it. so ive been looking into the KA engines, they look like a pretty good alternative to the z24 but i though id get some more opinions on it. anybody know what kind of fuel economy i could expect out of one of these, or how much work the swap might be?

Did you change the headgasket?
Did you have the head checked for flatness before installing a new headgasket?
How hot did it get?
