Just bought it today Im happy, its a second vehicle for me. I am working on getting it daily drivable.

Work completed so far by PO:

Head reworked, new seats and stem gaskets. valves left alone. Heads mild polish job.New water pumpnew radiatornew power steering pressure linenew spark plugs (all 8) New fan clutch

Now for the problem

There is literally no power, on the way home it would not get over 50mph. Really felt like the timing was off. so when i got home, i checked the timing and it was off. adjusted timing as directed on the hood and the haynes manual. much better top end but now i cant hardly get off the line

so am i looking at carb troubles (seems like there is a stumble) also when i go up hills the truck bogs and tries to die. This seems to be in line with the floats being bad or adjusted wrong in the carb. What do you guys think?

just turned over 131,000mi the truck was flogged hard and is in bad shape.

also, cant figure out what is wrong with the brake lights. PO pulled the fuse, i plugged in the fuse and nothing happened. put new bulbs in and now the brake lights will not shut off. crawled under the dash and the switch is new. where to look?

Thanks for all the help, i look forward to being an active member on this site.

the 720s are nice little rigs. i am not a fan of the interiors but thats me. i am a 620 fan myself. and :

as for the brake lights, are your marker lights on when you tried the brakes??? it may just be the bulbs are backwards. it does happen. if not then your brake switch is most likely shorted.

as for the stumbleing how are the cap rotor and wires? i know hte plugs were changed when the head was redone but what about the rest? also if you can get a factory service manual for the truck.

hope it all works out for ya!

Thanks!

Update:

plug wires and cap are new

Stumbling has been greatly reduced, we have been working on the timing and it keeps getting better and better. Seems that there is two marks on the main pully working on it.

The brake lights were actually an easy fix, turns out there is a hole in the brake pedal where the brake switch contacts. i guess it was supposed to have a plastic plug that the PO removed and didnt know what it was. So i installed a new one and bam they work great!

I pulled the a/c condensor and associated hoses out today (they didnt work). I also found out that the cat was plugged also causing the stumbling problem, so off it went and it now has a cherry bomb glass pack with a turn down for now it sounds aight. for now.

im uploading pics now

Nice 720! Old trucks are a lot of fun

FYI you can still get a TON of parts from Nissan for those.
