I have a ka24de motor and transmission that i pulled out of my 1993 Nissan 240sx and i am trying to swap it into my 1984 Nissan 720 truck.. The ka oil pan has the oil sump on the front of the pan and it is interfering with a lower sway bar. I know ppl have been swapping the ka's from the Nissan Frontier because it has a rear oil sump but since if have this spare engine that runs amazing, i was really hoping i could use it.. Any info on how i can go about getting the motor installed the cheapest way possible and making the oil pan fit is greatly appreciated.. Also, if anyone has a build write-up on this or anything else that will help me out.. My truck has been sitting for about 4 months now without a motor and i really want to get it back on the road. Thanks!!

you will need to get an oil pick-up assembly and oil pan from a Hardbody Nissan truck that came with the KA motor.

The truck KA motors have the sump in the rear, like your Z2x motor.

The truck KA pan and pick-up assembly will bolt onto your KA24DE motor just fine.

I just finished putting a KA24E truck motor in my 720 4x4. Check out my posts here recently to get some ideas if needed.

What are you going to use to control fuel and ignition?

I will look into that oil pan assembly. I know that by having the oil sump in the rear, it would allow the motor to clear and your answer is what i was hoping to be able to do.. Thanks again for your help, hopefully ill be able to find a setup soon.. I was just gonna use an external fuel pump out of the 86' 720 because i heard that it will be sufficient enough for this setup.. As far as the ignition part, i haven't figured that out yet because i ran into the oil pan problem.
Once again i thank you for your help and hopefully it works out..

Any other input/help will be awesome and maybe even some build threads...

Also NOFACE,when you say the "hardbody Nissan that came with the ka" are you talking about the Nissan Frontier? And didn't the Frontier come with a single cam motor? I have the DE which is a Dual cam motor... Will the oil pan still bolt directly to my motor?

You should be able to use the external high pressure pump for an 86.5 FI 720 for your application, regardless of your controller choice.

I refer to the "Hardbody" trucks as the model from 87-97 (I believe). The Frontier name is used after the D21 Hardbody series. The Frontiers did use the KA until the most recent (current) body style (someone correct me if I'm wrong). What I was kind of referring to is that the first two years of Hardbody manufacture, they used the Z24 engine, so you DON'T want a pan and oil pickup from those years 87-88. You want one from a truck that has the KA engine in it. They will fit on your 240sx KA24DE engine.

You can't use the external oil pump with your ka24de b/c the lower front cover is different than the ka24e. On the de the oil pump is built into the lower front cover and the oil pickup tube bolts to the bottom of it. You are going to need to get an oil pan and pickup tube from a z22 or z24 out of a 4x4 720. then take the oil pan from your ka24de and the put the sump from the z2x and weld it to it. then using the pickup tubes from both enigines and some extra tubing extend the pickup tube from the front of the engine to teh rear sump. I'm working on swapping a ka24de from a s14 into my 84 720 4x4.

I really wish someone would clear up the issue of the oil pans on the KA motors WITH PICTURES.

I know I got bit when I started my swap. I had read in a couple places the Z24 pan would fit the KA. No way....

And I've read the CAR KA's to a TRUCK KA was simply a matter of tubing modifications.

It makes no difference to me now, since my project is complete, but might help some others that are contemplating a swap and gather the required parts and info before they dive in.

It will also help aleviate a lot of misinformation that gets posted, such as in my case. I was merely parroting info I've read on the forums, should of known better than to comment on something I've never laid my eyes on... but oh well. It's worht what you paid for I guess.

i'll see if i can dig up some pics... but essentially its all based on how the truck pan is designed to clear suspension parts vs. how the car's is designed... the oil pickups are also different between the two and are reflected in the pan design...

what you could do in your situation is simply find a KA pan from a hardbody truck... and then engineer the oil pickup to fit where it should... that's about all i can come with

The problem whith doing that is the oil pan from any other KA will not bolt up to a ka24de from a s13 or s14. The bolt pattern and shape of the flange at the mating surface is different. I was thinking that maybe the oil pan from a hardbody or a frontier would work when I first started gathering parts. Those oil pans will phisically bolt on to KA24E from a 89-90 s13, but for some reason Nissan had to make the pans different on the KA24DE that they put in the later s13's and s14's. In order to make it bolt up to the car KA24de you would have to custom fabricate on it. It would be a waste anyways, according to Noface because of the sumpo issues. I'm just going to use the s14 oil pan and the z24 4x4 pan I pulled from the salvage last weekend and do pretty much like Noface did. I got the pick-up tube from the z24 also. I'll take that, the one from the s14 KA24DE, and some tubing and fab up the oil pickup. I'm pretty sure there is enough room between the main cap and the block to plumb it.

mys13240. I would like to to the same, I have an 84 720 4x4 that I need an engine for and would like to upgrade. How can I get a hold of you to get some notes on your swap? By the way is your truck running now? Does the 4x4 work good?
