I was wondering if anyone knows if I can remove a 5spd from an 84 nissan truck, and add the transfer case from a 79 4x4 to make my 79 a 5spd 4x4. any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks.

well... the transmission for sure is not the same and just won't bolt up... but some fab work and a bellhousing swap and that should be ok

i have no idea on the transfer case though

thank you very much for your reply. I am new here and am trying to find out as much as possible about these two trucks. The 84 nissan engine has 335000 on it, the 79 167000. I wanna build one truck out of two with a 5spd 4x4 capability. I like the 79 body style more than the 84. If you have any additional info on which engine would work better to rebuild or has more power i would appreciate your input and advise. Thanks so much and have a Great day.

Stock vs. stock the '84 engine is the better choice... it has more displacement. But it also has more emissions controls, which can be removed, however one of the emissions components that is included is the head so the '84 engine will not breathe as well at high RPM without a lot of headwork. Depending on how much work you plan on doing in the rebuild will be the determining factor here. your '84 engine is better for basic purposes but for a high performance build the head on it will set you back without lots of work. It's more or less preference really

The bell housing should be able to swap, the 720's use the same bell housing as the late 70's z cars.

You can get a long block from your local parts store, you will not like the price though.
