Truck was gift from wife's Grandfather since he never drove it. Got it about 4 years ago, basic tune up done, new shocks, replaced transmission after the 5 spd dropped out.
Okay, so just got done replacing water pump on 83 King Cab three weeks ago. Ran fine until today when the wife was driving home from getting the kids and it cut off on her.
Went, towed it home (thankfully only about 5 miles). Would turn over and start with a little fluid down the carb.
So checked the fuel pump, is pushing fuel, checked out the line where the carb inlet is (plus the hose was really old so plan on replacing that). Had fuel coming out there as well. So, move on to the carb.
Pressing the accelerator doesn't even produce a mist out of the jet.
Carb is original Hitachi carb. Take off the inlet line and filter looks to be original as well. Horrible shape. I pour some gas down into the bowl.....fires right up (I pulled the fuel pump fuse before).
So I think the filter is the problem.....now my only problem is finding one.
Any advice or does anyone see or think of anything I would be missing? I looked through some threads, but I don't think that the Weber swap is up my avenue right now.

Did you ever check the fuel level through the window in the carb bowl? Also, the other thing that comes to mind is if the float isn't moving properly, or the needle is stuck, but that said, gummed up fuel filter sounds most likely. Note that the fuel pump also has a fuel filter inside of it, so you should take a look at replacing that one also.
As for a source for the little one, I have no idea. I took it to a place and they basically said "I have no idea where to get one of these; clean it and pray" If you've got a Nissan dealership nearby, that may be worth a try — I know they still have some parts for their old vehicles, but that might not be one of them.

I checked the fuel level, it was okay, until all the fuel ran out......
As for the little filter, it basically fell apart as I removed it. Horrible shape, so there is no chance of clean and hope. I was hoping someone would have a good idea on where to get one. I will call the dealership tomorrow and see if they even stock this thing. If not, I guess the carb swap will be happening.
