Hi! I am new to the forum. I just turned 18. I own an Acura Integra... but I have always liked 280ZX's. There is just something about them that I like.
Anyway, I found one that I really like for sale near my house. It is black and it looks great. It has a blown gasket and 2 of the cylinders have 0 compression.
My question to yall is how much would it cost to fix this car? I dont know a whole lot about engine internal work. Also, if this (nonturbo) engine is NOT salvagable, what engine options are available for swap.

i'd buy it i love the old 280's actualy i'm running 280 wheels on my 510.the motor probelm?theres tons of 280 motors where i live in fact i have one siting in my shop you should be able to go to any wrecking yard and find a 280 motor.you can change the fuel injection by changing the intake.so if your car isn't fuel injected you can just put your intake on that motor so........any 280 motor will work.

the L6 is almost always salvagable, and they can be had cheap cause they outlast their rusting bodies the L28ET (turbo) motor is a bolt in with the turbo wire harness, I'm running one in my 71 240z should be good for 12's (gonna find out at SEZ unless I bring my 83 zxt instead

quick is good! The thing is... I dont have a whole lot of money to put into this project. What is a fairly inexpensive engine assembly that would swap in? Where could I get it? Where can I find more info on power specs and install process?

L28ET, found in 81-83 280ZX turbo models, I have gotten 2 of them wrecked for $350 each, bolt in, along with the harness, 180 hp stock, turn up the boost and ya got more power cheap and easy just like me

well, i'd buy it - and put in a big motor! i hope that you all don't cringe, but when i was 19 i bought a 280Z and put a 1970 455 Buick with the TH400 (AT) in it - it was really great!
i have a 71 510 now and have no plans of creating such a beast again...but that 280Z was a very cool car - everything fit under the hood - the buick motor had the distributor at the front so i could push the whole motor way back - it only weighed 2700 lbs and ran 12.1 at 114mph, drove it to the track and never broke the diff - it was really quite a good car. the whole swap took 9 days and the most expensive part was the driveshaft!

Check you local salvage yards. There were 3 280's at the one back home about 8 years ago that were big ol rust bags, but one of them was a turbo, and only had about 82k on the clock. I asked what he wanted for the car, and he said 500 i could have it. Almost bought it till I found I was going to be sationed in japan.
