Alright, before anyone asks, I did search for info, and didn't find too much...

I was looking in the local paper, and found a 1980 280 ZX for sale, for 300 bucks. Talked to the guy, and he basically told me it was his son's car, and he had done a 90% restore from a 82 ZX. Leaky rear main seal on the block, and it had been sitting for quite a while. It was running when they parked it, but over time the battery dies, etc. Starting to rust now, and they want to get rid of it.

Now, I do have a little automobile knowledge. I had a 92 S13 that I played with for a while, before selling it. I don't know much about the older datsuns though. Doing searches, I figured out that the engine code is the L28E, and its a inline six. Correct me if I am wrong, because I really don't know.

Basically, what should I expect? I know I will have to put some money into it, and if it doesn't look to be in decent shape I won't be getting it anyway. I know there are plenty of options as far as engine swaps and everything goes, does the L28 have any potential itself?

I am in Baton Rogue, and if anyone is in the general area let me know. Should I get it, I am sure I could use some assistance if anyone would like to give a helping hand lol

baton Rogue? oof...check for rust for sure. the fuel injected l28 is a whore with all the smog crap they liked to put on them. however, boosted variants when well tuned can be monsters. 400 hp on stock internals with good thermal management (maybe swap for turbo forged pistons just in case )i've seen tube frame drag cars with these check out hybridz.org... pretty much anything can be done to a z chassis.
