1979 datsun pickup help

hi i just bought a 1979 datsun pickup the motor was in it was seized so he threw a different motor in and its a newer style with the 2 coils and 8 spark plugs im new to datsuns i been workin on toyotas for a while so im getting into this i dont know if this is the right placxe to ask this but how do i use the motor with 2 coils in a trukc that only was wired for one coil thank you

i've never seen it done before actually... i'd assume steal the wiring from the newer model? i can tell you its a Z motor most likely out of a 720... so that would narrow your search down some

it should work out if i just take the single coil out and run power to both the new coils though right im pretty sureit will work out ill figure it out it just weird all i work on is 22r or bigger motors lol

On the drivers side of the block between # 1 & #2 cylinders just below the head is a number boss and it will be either a Z20, Z22, or a Z24. Check that let us know what you are working with Pictures would be helpful.

One coil fires the intake side plugs & the other coil fires the exhaust side plugs.

These motors were used in the 1981 to 1986 720 trucks and some cars also. Once you find out what motor it is it will narrow your search for a wiring diagram.

well the only problem is that the 2 coils don't fire at the same time... the intake side coils fire first and then the exhaust fire a few degrees after...

k i went out and couldnt find a number boss anywhere there was a spot right oil pan looked like it should be there but it had nothn on it i got couple pictures but would it work if i ran the power wire to coil to the new ones or would that make them fire at same time and can i just eliminate the exhaust spark?i cant figure out how to put pictures on sorry i dont deal with computers at al

1. create a PhotoBucket account (it is free)
2. upload your pictures from your computer to your PhotoBucket it is easy.
3. Once you have your pictures on your photobucket account then Left click on [IMG](in the drop down menu under your pictures) which will highlite he "Image Code" to the right of the [IMG] (it will be highlited in Blue)
4. Right click on the blue "IMG Code" choose "Copy"
5. then paste it into your post on Ratsun.

This requires 2 windows open Ratsun & PhotoBucket.

its either Z20 or Z22... i wanna say Z22... definitely not a Z24 though

willz22 bolt up to stock 79 transmission ?

Yes but the transmission will be turned becase the Z motor leans to the right & the L motor leans to the left.
