1979 280z questions

My friend just aquired a brown(yuck!) datsun 280z for 3k and under 80k miles and we're ready to get modding after a few minor things are taken care of. Ive always loved these cars since I was little and yet I dont know much about modifying them performance wise. Do any of you guys have any suggestions or links as far as, wheels, exhaust, suspension, motor, turbo, etc. This is gonna be a fun project and I look forward to your responses.

Well you could swap in a L28ET from a 280ZX Turbo. Lots of people do that or you could go RB. For wheels I think a bunch of people like to keep them small like 16" with low offsets. I'm not sure about suspension and exhaust though. But one of the other guys will pry come in here and tell you about that.

the L28ET swap is the cheapest, easiest way to bg power, the RB of course will cost you and is a big pain to put in, lots of people run various N/A buildups, we had a high compression dyno 195 whp and 213 lbft at the wheel today, but he's got about 4k tied up in motor carbs header and exhaust, the good news is the car's are pretty light, the 240 shoud be 2600-2800 lbs bumopers and misc parts can be stripped getting that weight down to a better level, and just about every engine possible has been swapped in, SR20DET, RB's, small blocka nd big block V8's from all of the big 3, VH45's, VG's, rotary's, it's all been done hybridz.org for just about any mod you can think of

as for suspension and brakes it just depends on what you want to do with the car, tokiko's with ST springs and MSA swap bars is pretty popular street performer, full on coil overs from modernmotorsports or arizona z cars, and there was just a thread discussing brake upgrades on the S30's so I'll spare you me repeating rant

You dont have to swap Engine From L28E to L28ET Actually that is the same engine only that the L28ET is Turbocharged.Do what I dohet yourself som 280ZXT Pistons a good Turbocharger and some Exhaust Intakes and start building.It`s the Cheapest way to gain Horsepower and Preformance.My 79` 280ZX is Turbocharged and it has 236BHP.

My dream is to put a 300ZX TWIN TURBO V6 in a 1970 240Z but i dont have the money for that.

haha well maybe if i get the money.my father has an old 1973 240Z that need`s a paint job.if i can get the Twin Turbo I can build it

My dad is a real Datsun guy :phe is 42year`s and he refuse to sell his cars The cars he has now-1975 Datsun 260Z 2+2-1973 Datsun 240Z-1969 Datsun 510 Deluxe-1970 Datsun 510 1600
