Hello everyone I'm new to this forum and new to the Nissan/Datsun Family.I just purschased my first Datsun Ever. Its a 1974 Datsun 710 with the L20B motor and a 5 Speed Transmission. I need Help. I don't know anything about this car except that I think it looks great. I bought it for $1700 and I feel like I got a great deal. It runs great and all but I just want more power and better handling. Any Suggestions? Is the L20B worth fixing up? Also everywhere I look I can't find any 710's that look like mine. How rare is this car?

L20B engine is definitely worth rebuilding. We are putting one in our Dime.

I use to have a 76 710. What you got there is not a coupe though. Mine was a coupe, I will try to find a pic and show you. The coupe didn't have a center post between the door window and the rear seat window. I had a square port l20b in mine and we swapped in a dogleg 5 speed. It was my first car and it was fun, I only got rid of it because it was a 76 and in California it was stuck with emission laws. From what I researched about it years ago is that there were only 7200 made per year and total about 24000 were made, but don't quote me on that but I think my numbers are pretty close. You should keep it and fix it up.

Ok, I found a pic of my datsun, this pic was taken at the 2001 Mt Shasta Datsun show. As you can see there is no post, it is just a chrome weather strip that seals the two windows and it rolls down with the back window.

My dad talked me into rolling the fenders, so thats why the front ones look funny, I was 15-16 at the time, if I could do it over I would have left them stock, and just lowered the car. All through highschool I searched during class about datsuns, I was obsessed with them. I always wanted a 510 instead though, still wanting one too lol. I will look through all my pics and find some 710s for you for some inspiration.

I see what you mean now about the post. Thanks for the info. Your car still look good I rolled the rear fenders on my 70' Nova a few years back and I think it looked good. Well first thing I want to do i add a front lip to my Datsun but I need to find more pictures so I can get some ideas. Thanks alot once again for your comments and info.

Wow that looks just like my first car. Same color, same style, same year.
It is considered a 2 door sedan. Awesome thanks for sharing. :bigthumb:
