I am gonna copy this to the Z car forum. I will also hit the 30 yr nissan tech I work with up about your problem. these older datsuns are more up his alley then they are for me. I'll let you know if he has an answer. you may also wanna post your production date of the car since it appears theres a mid year difference. should be on the door label if its still present.

I just took out my halfshafts because the universal joints are thrashed and I get a loud clunk when accelerating. My problem is, is that Nissan doesnt carry the u-joints that I need for my 1974 260z (my halfshafts are the ones with the splines at the end that connect to the differential.

Apparently there is a difference in the halfshafts from the earlier 1974 model and the later 1974 model. I purchased (nievely) some driveshafts from some guy who said they would work on my year car. They dont have the splines that connect to to diff.

Is there some way I could use the u-joints from them and transfer them to my old axles? Or any secret stores that you all know about. The beer is on me for anyone who can help.

Take the half shaft to any decent parts place and get Spicer U-joints for it. If they don't have a listing for the particular application they can just measure it.

Another option is to take the half shaft to a local drive shaft shop and they will replace them. Again, insist on Spicer U-joints.

Any local Z specialty shop should have extra half shafts for your car. The splined ones are rarer than the ones with flanges. Get a third one, have the u-joints replaced. Ensure the flex boot in the center of the half shaft is in good shape. DO NOT take the flex boot apart!! You will be an unhappy puppy! If the flex boot is broken, toss the half shaft.

When I drove a Z as my everyday transport, which I did for twenty years, I changed one half shaft each year so I always had fresh u-joints.
