welcome,
do you want to know the value of the engine or truck? l16 engines nobody wants so they go for free up to $200. the nicest 521's best of the best, cream of the crop only go for $4000-6000. most fall in the $300-1500 range depending on condition and mods. . post a pic and tell us where your located.:)

Pick an engine with the distributor in the front and you won't have to cut. As long as you can get it to fit under the hood anything should work. You'll have to beef up the suspension because of the extra weight. Most guy's I've known who have done this just found a similiar sized frame and set their truck body on it. To be honest that would be two guys. But my bro managed to stuff a 327 in a 53 Austin Healey so I figure anything is possible!:)

If you don't already have the engine....I'd consider the 4.3....just as cheap, almost as strong and it will fit without the firewall cutting.

O do i have to change the rear end my truck has 4.38 gears so that is realy low. i have a disc brake possy rear end out of a camaro wolud i have to have it shortined. or would something else be beter? what could a guy you for the front end? but keep the frame thats under the truck factory? thanks for all your help!

If you go with the 327  you'll probably have to change the entire rear end because if you don't all you'll do is smoke the tires with each gear change! The old Datsuns weren't designed handle that kind of horsepower and speed! Check with Chris Tippets who is a member here and is dropping a 5'0 mustang in his. I don't know if a roadster rear would do it. I defer to the more learned who are lurking here. I'm just restoring, but if I were going to hot rod it, I'd find another frame I could adapt to the body with the drive train intact and use it.

Not only is the rear end low (4.375) but it won't handle a V8 and niether would a roadster rear end as mentioned in the previous post.  You would need a rear axle, drum to drum, capable of handling V8 type power.  Like something out of an American car.  I've worked quite a bit with these Datsun H190 differentials, the housings, axles, etc.   Having been inside of them, one thing I can tell you for sure it that they will not handle a V8.

then i am goin to sell the truck if it is that much work to get it goin. and i am not sure what the front end is goin to be like to change or what i can put in it that will work i have done a lot of crazy thing and not had as much stuff to do to them so i will just put it up for sale.

Stephen, I was hoping you'd chime in. If he wanted to stay Datsun what about a 300Z series? 'The width would probably still be a problem, even if he stuck with Gm he'd still face that problem.. so it looks like a custom axle job to shorten the width to fit. I wonder.. Chevy Love or Chevette rear? Still couldn't handle 400 hp. Yep custom axle.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
