Double checked the wiring diagram and here is something to check:
Background: Back in the days cars had 6 volts batteries and ignition coils were designed to produce spark on this voltage. When electrical systems were upgraded to 12 volts, the extra voltage could overstress the ignition coils causing failures. To prevent this, a resistor was added to limit the current through the coil. This gave engineers the ability to give some extra oomph to the spark by bypassing this resistor when starting.
A failed resistor or its associated wiring would cause exactly your symptoms. If you have an ohm meter measure the resistor mounted next to the coil. If it reads very high resistance, replace it. If it reads very low resistance (a few ohms), you have a wiring problem.
