Then make it happen.jtrading wrote:$40,000 can not buy clean hakosuka. If you know the market in Japan $40,000 is not even close the price range.
Many GT-R owners know who has which GT-R in which location and what kind of condition.
If you are really interested in this car, I would set up with he seller privately to show this car.
Well, it's not us you are talking about, then.totsubo wrote:Oh crap. Looks like I was schooled.
When I was looking for a few to import I saw some for $40,000. Perhaps those were conversions.
I also saw some for around $100,000 but did not take those too seriously. I guess between $60,000 to $110,000 is the going rate.
I hate it when I am wrong
You guys that live in Tokyo, Kanagawa and Chiba, sometimes I envy you guys. I could never afford to live in any of those areas.
Oh well. Way more than I would ever want to pay for one. Guess when I decide on getting a classic it will be American Muscle.Gold Digger wrote:For a real Hakosuka GT-R? I find that hard to believe considering what the market for them here is.
Here's an example of one on Yahoo! Auctions with a starting price of about $95K with the current exchange rate.

Speaking of 2000GTs. I was out a few weeks ago cruising the C1 and hit up Shibaura PA, just after crossing Rainbow Bridge, and there were about 4 MINT Toyota 2000GT cars down there. A friend of mine got pictures, but I haven't seen them yet.themadscientist wrote:To put it in perspective, the Hakosuka is not just any Japanese classic. Short of something like a 2000GT this is THE classic. Think numbers-matching COPO Camaro, or a Yenko car; something of that pedigree. You would pay similar astronomical prices for one of those rare gems. My Skyline is like an old Nova or something.
Interesting comparison. I guess "value" is in the eye of the beholder because I would never pay astronomical prices for an old muscle car, or this car. They are interesting - but not THAT interesting (to me).themadscientist wrote:To put it in perspective, the Hakosuka is not just any Japanese classic. I think I just peed my pants after seeing that a Yugo Cabrio has had a bid over the reserve of $10K. WOWZERS!themadscientist wrote:Very good point. I have always had to remind people selling things that an item's value is based on what someone will pay for it.

It's also a car that has limited collector value in the US. Run a restored one through Barrett-Jackson and it would get nowhere near the Japan price (IMO).themadscientist wrote:Very good point.
